Me and Mine in June

Eight months old, and they are changing again.  Can you see from these pictures how alert and focused they are?  How engaged with the world?  The twins have an enormous appetite for new experiences at the moment; they reach out and grasp every opportunity that comes their way.

This month the twins learned to crawl and to stand.  They camped in the New Forest and Lysander attended Britmums on the Friday and charmed everyone he met.  And not that they know it, but they made the final in the MAD Blog Awards in the Best Baby Blog and Best Blog Photography categories!  Eek.

They visited both of their great-grandparents and attended an eightieth birthday party for their great-grandma, ‘Nanny Fish’.  They helped their mummy (Kirsty) celebrate her 26th and Nanny Jackie celebrate her, uh, 21st, although they did not get to partake in feasting on the delicious chocolate birthday cake!  Poor twins.  They have plunged into weaning face-first and are enthusiastic about most culinary experiences.  They enjoy toast, hummus, roasted vegetables, a variety of soups and casseroles, cheddar, feta and mozzarella, Weetabix, yoghurt, banana, broccoli cheese, scrambled eggs, nectarine, cous cous and olives.  They do not like watermelon, the little oddballs.

In this hot weather the twins have been keeping cool roaming the house in just their nappies or splashing in crates filled with cold water.  They have ditched their bright, shiny plastic toys in favour of kitchen utensils and sofa cushions, or helping mama pull the clean washing out of the washing machine or make breakfast in the morning. They hold conversations with each other, babbling and laughing and waving their arms.  EVERYTHING makes them giggle.

It seems bizarre to me that in just four months, their first birthday will be over.  We are planning already and this week, narrowed down our shortlist to what I think may well be our party theme.  I am so excited to celebrate that milestone but at the same time, dreading having toddlers rather than babies.  They are just perfection right now and we’re not ready for that to change!

I love our pictures from this month, in spite of some decidedly adventurous editing and gratuitous haze from the sun!  Not to mention, a dog who is seriously in need of a good clipping.  I just – think that we all look like us, here.  Exactly as I see us in my head.  I’m going to get one framed.

They’re lovely pictures (as always) and they seem very natural and happy – and you can definitely feel the heat radiating out from the screen! The boys sound like they’re having a wonderful time, I’ll envy them the crates of water right now!!

These are beautiful Amber. I feel that you like me are a fan of that golden hazy light. In fact maybe we should start a fan club? ‘The Katie and Amber Golden Light Appreciation Society’- it has a ring to it no? x
