One in four women lose a baby during pregnancy or childbirth. I am not a part of that one in four and cannot speculate as to their devastation. Not have I delivered a premature child, although approximately sixty thousand babies are born prematurely every year in the UK. But few women pass through pregnancy untouched by that cold hand of fear, the creeping could-it-be-me unease, the horror when no, it’s not you – but it is a friend, somebody you know.
Baby charity Tommy’s is aiming to raise £1 million pounds to fund a National Research Centre for Improving Maternity Care, and is hosting a Splashathon in collaboration with Water Babies. The theme this year is Peppa Pig Pirates and Princesses, and local parents who are already Water Babies members are invited to get their little ones dressed up and participate in the Splashathon.
If you’re not a Water Babies member, you can still get involved in helping Tommy’s to meet their £1 million target by donating directly via their fundraising page. They also have a fun quiz to find out your little one’s swimming style.
