I have written previously about how much I enjoy living in my little town. It’s not a big place but there is always something to do and we are lucky to have a fab community of volunteers who are always looking out for Chislehurst’s best interests. Now that we have children we are really benefitting from this extended community of people who know and care about the twins, and who are passionate about keeping our local area fun and exciting.
I have loads of US-based friends and Halloween always looks to be so much fun for them, with tremendous importance placed on the day. I would love to offer my children something similar but lets face it – nobody really enjoys having children knocking on their door all evening, demanding sweeties.
Visit Chislehurst have hit upon an ingenious solution – a Halloween Pumpkin Hunt up and down the High Street, sponsored and supported by various shops and businesses. Whilst the twins are a little young to properly participate we couldn’t resist popping them into their costumes (handmade by Kirsty – isn’t she clever?!) and nipping along to see the ghosties and ghouls and and superheroes and zombies and pumpkins and witches and bats enjoying their treasure hunt. The twins find older children fascinating and were goggle-eyed to see such a procession of them in such a splendid array of costumes!
It’s the twins’ first birthday today and we greatly enjoyed incorporating the Pumpkin Hunt into our birthday celebrations, then popping in to visit a few of our neighbours on our way home to show off the twins’ costumes and thank them for their support over this past year. Big thank you to Visit Chislehurst for planning such a fun event, and to the organisations that helped to make it possible!
Does your town do anything for Halloween? If not, what do you do with your children?
