Financially speaking, this has not been our year. Between having our home built and funding IVF privately, we have haemorrhaged money until we are decidedly in the red. With this in mind, my partner Kirsty and I decided to give each other the gifts of time for birthdays and Christmas this year.
Today is my birthday. I’m twenty-six. Coincidentally, it’s also the first really sunny day that we have had in about a week, and are predicted to have for the foreseeable future. So the gift that I requested was a photoshoot of me with the boys. You see, I suffer from the photographer’s curse. I’m always behind the camera. We have many, many nice photographs of the twins… and in almost all of them, they are in Kirsty’s arms. I don’t mind; I love to be the photographer. But it will be nice to be able to prove that I was there for their babyhoods too.
So for my birthday this year we captured memories. This is how the twins looked at six weeks and two days old, in this mother’s arms. This is how small they were, those are their tiny hands. That is how they snuggled in close, how they gazed at our faces. It was the perfect gift and I know that I will treasure these photographs in the coming years.

A very happy birthday, you look so very happy. I cannot believe what just 6 weeks have done to your boys. My goodness, what little heartbreakers already. Motherhood really suits you.
I love the first two pictures in particular! What a lovely gift idea. Xxxx
